Yes, a school can add up to 20 custom questions on their Smart Aid Application. There are four question types (single input, drop down, free response, multi-choice) and the text of the questions are open to customization by the school. All questions created will appear in the order in which they are entered by the school. Questions can be altered, added, or deleted at any time, however please be aware that altering the questions once applications are being processed will result in different questions or sets of questions on different applications. For further assistance, we also provide a link at the top of the page, in blue, called Common Custom Questions (Also listed below) that provides some examples of questions commonly asked by schools. Feel free to use these verbatim, re-word them, or as brainstorming while considering what you may want to ask.
Custom Question Examples:
Have you taken a vacation(s) in the past three years? If so, please list the destination, length of your stay and the total cost of the vacation(s).
Does your child attend summer camp? If so, please list the number of days they attended and the cost.
Do you have a family member that was an alumnus of our school? If so, please list their name and graduating year.
Please list your volunteer work within our school.
In less than 100 characters, please explain the reason behind sending your child to School Name.
Do you currently have monthly memberships? IE: Gyms, Country Clubs, Netflix, etc. If so, please list your memberships and fees.
Does your child participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, band, drama etc? If so, please list the activities.
Please list the make, model, and year of the car(s) you lease or own.
Please list the make, model, and year of the car that the child(ren) applying for aid will be driving to school.
NOTE: There is a limit of 180 characters for the answers to the Single Input and Free Response questions.
To create Custom Questions:
1. Hover over the Settings tab and click Create Custom Application Questions. 2. Choose Yes to the question, "Do you wish to display the custom questions to your families?" 3. Click the yellow Add New Custom Question button, and choose the question type from the drop down. 4. The new question fields will appear and you may enter the desired text. Please note, if questions have already been entered, scroll down to view the new question fields at the bottom of the list. 5. When finished with the text entry, click the green save icon in the upper right corner of the new question box and question will be saved, and immediately available on the application. 6. To edit an existing question, click the green edit icon in the upper right corner of the question fields. 7. To delete any question, click the red delete icon in the upper right corner of the question fields.
