Note: If Blackbaud hosts your The Raiser's Edge database and you integrate with NetCommunity, please ensure you are launching The Raiser's Edge using the RE7 icon instead of the BBNC plug-in icon.

Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

NOTE: Blackbaud products are NOT compatible with any 64 bit version of Office.  You must use a compatible version of Office that is 32 bit.

  1. If using Office 2010, verify that you are running Raiser's Edge 7.91.5056.20 and higher. Update Raiser's Edge to the most recent version and patch to ensure compatibility between Raiser's Edge and Office 2010.
  2. If using Office 2010 Service Pack 1, verify that you are running Raiser's Edge 7.92.5508 and higher. Update Raiser's Edge  to the most recent version and patch to ensure compatibility between Raiser's Edge and Office 2010 (SP1).
  3. The Windows security update (KB973904), released on December 8, 2009, changed the way that Windows and third-party components use the WordPad-to-Word 6.0 converter.
Microsoft has issued a utility to address this issue.  (For Windows 7 machines, skip to step #4, since this security update does not apply to Windows 7).
    1. Verify that the Windows security update has been applied to the affected workstation.
      1. Go to Start>Control Panel
      2. Open Add/Remove Programs
      3. Mark the Show Updates checkbox at the top of the screen
      4. Browse to Windows <Version> - Software Updates
      5. Look for Security Update KB973904
      6. If the Security Update can be found, proceed to step #3b to apply the Microsoft Fix It. Otherwise, skip to step #4
    2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 973904 to download and run Microsoft Fix it 50352.
  4. Reboot the workstation
  5. Merge the document using a short and simple file name. Note: The file name can be changed once it is saved outside of The Raiser's Edge.
  6. Recreate the query that is being used in the mail merge parameter definition.
  7. If using Office 2010, follow the steps in Knowledgebase Solution BB723657 to verify the proper installation of the NORMAL.DOTM template on the workstation.
